In honor of National Women’s History Month, Jeffries is launching Six Houses Entrepreneurs (S.H.E.) to support and inspire women business owners and young girls in West Central Indiana. Jeffries, owner of Six Houses Estate Sales, donates a portion of every commission she receives to S.H.E., and now offers her clients an opportunity to support the cause.
For the first project, S.H.E. is donating books that encourage female entrepreneurship to area schools and public libraries.
“Joni’s vision to motivate and inspire female entrepreneurs is admirable and we’re very grateful for her partnership,” said Jodie Steelman Wilson, assistant director at the Crawfordsville District Public Library, who worked closely with Jeffries to develop a book wish list. “The investment she is making in our community will pay dividends in the future.”
It’s not the first time Jeffries has reached out to the community to organize and lift up fellow female entrepreneurs. She asked the Crawfordsville/Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce to start Women In Business, a popular networking group that now meets every other week.
“It is important for us to support our female business owners and entrepreneurs as a community, because it recognizes the impact they play in our local economy,” said Chamber executive director Rick Hernandez. “I’m excited to see what awaits S.H.E. through their philanthropy ... I know anything I can do as a man, a female can do as good or a better job. As a father to three young daughters, I want the best and brightest for their futures.”
Jeffries said she always turns to books for inspiration.
“Entrepreneurship can be very isolating, especially in the beginning when you have no professional contacts,” Jeffries said. “A simple lunch with another female business owner can help me destress and gain new inspiration. Before I formed professional relationships with other women, I relied on books. I learned so much from reading other women’s stories and gained meaningful insight into myself and why I wanted to be an entrepreneur.
“Stories are what bind us. There are amazing women in the world sharing their wisdom and experience through books,” Jeffries continues. “I would love for these sources of inspiration to be freely available to women entrepreneurs in West Central Indiana and young women in our public schools.”
